So, how about an update on the Savage 99 .250? Have you scoped it yet? Developed (or found) a good load for it?

I did an update post you can see here, KS. I originally had a Leupold VX 1 on the 99, but frankly wasn't too thrilled with the optics so changed out to a Nikon Prostaff 2-7x. Big improvement. At this point I'm shooting up the factory ammo to get brass since I haven't found a supply on 250 Savage brass, yet, but have dome enough shooting to know the little 99 is a keeper. |

I was looking through some old posts and saw the pic of your 99. Beautiful gun. I read the replies and 44s rock said he was always looking for one in 308. There is such an animal. The 99 I have is a 99EG. From the info I got through research it was manufactured in 1956. I checked ser#'s and they are all good. I've bought factory ammo that does work in the rotary block. My problem was with reloading because the recommended OAL is too long. I'll try and post a pic of my 99

Please do. Sadly, that little 99 was part of our purge to convert over to revolvers and other handguns for most of our shooting. I still shoot and reload a 25 caliber, though, because I like 25s. This one will do anything that little 99 could do and a whole lot more. Encore 257 Roberts A. Improved, custom ported 15" barrel and custom stock. Very, very sweet shooter. ![]() |

I do appreciate the lines of the 99 Tiny pic of today doesn't display, tho. Similar to that of the Ruger No. 1. Beautiful simplicity, that's all. Here's one with nothing fancy Simple beauty. Ya just gotta be careful with them... as with lots of things. The venerable 250 Savage spawned the 22-250 and others. Last edited by gemihur; 02-08-2020 at 06:45 AM. |
