@GunnyG:
I have two kimber compacts. One a 45 and the other is 38 super.
I am going to tell you about the "Ultra Take Down Tool" and you be be well advised to get one for your Kimber.
Here is the info:
1911 ultra tool
2012 takedown tool
Kimber pro & compact models
KTP-2012s.M
Bar code 7 18117 03304 9
Made in Texas
Here is the site: https://www.amazon.com/Kimbers-Compa...=1911+takedown
When you fitst look at it you will think it will never work, but believe you me it does work but only on a compact that requires a wire insert for takedown.

I assume from your comments it doesn't have a barrel bushing like the gov't 1911 hence the need for a take down device?

I'm sure it's a fine gun, but I gotta say $52 for a tool to take it down would be a deal breaker for me. I buy a lot of guns and ammo, but I'm notoriously cheap when it comes to buying accessories. If I'm looking at a semi-auto and find out that magazines are $40-$50, I usually look elsewhere.

@ GUNNY G: As you get older that take down pin will become more of a hassle. As you shoot more, you will realize how much of a help the $52 tool is worth to you. It is unblievable how easy it is to use.

+1............ I would never ever buy a gun that hard to take down .

95% of Glock owner don't know how to take a Glock slide off the grip frame correctly without pulling the trigger and no special tools NEEDED .

I don't think the tool KL describes is necessary, just helpful. There are similar tools marketed for Ruger Mark pistols, I've seen some for 1911s, and ARs.

I have no doubt that the Gunny can take the pistol apart without much trouble. Give him a few days with it then blindfold him.
