Unique Anschutz Exemplar XIV pistol

My father passed this on to me. He use to shoot silhouettes competitively. He is also one that always analyzed and modified things. What are your thoughts on this? He moved the grip forward, he said it balanced better. He also canted the grip to put his hand in a more natural position when shooting prone. He also did the snake trigger guard and grip. He never hacked anything and was detail oriented. I don’t shoot competition and have never shot this but it really locks your hand in when gripped. Wondering about thoughts and possible value. He passed away and I have no living relatives but a young daughter. I am mid 60s and I don’t think my guns will hold much value for her in the future. Just putting it out there.

I couldn't imagine selling it unless you are desperate for cash. It begs to stay in the family. I suspect your daughter will value it as something that was built and prized by her grandfather. As to value check gun broker for ones that have sold. Then maybe add a premium for the fine workmanship.

It would even make a nice display to show your father's work. For someone that does not shoot it could be put into a shadow box and placed on the wall. Not everybody can do such fine work. Very nice.

silhouette pistol

if you do decide to sell it, go to IHMSA website and inquire there. You're looking for a buyer in a small and specialized market. Those will be the guys/gals that will show the most interest.............

The Exemplar was a dedicated 22 LR silhouette pistol and when it was introduced, it kicked the TC Contender off the the throne as the king of silhouette rimfire pistols. Exemplars are in a class of their own. They will typically shoot groups that challenge a goof bolt rifle. They are not easy to find, because they had a short production run - late 80s to early 90s - coming into the sport at the end of its glory years.

We have an all original 10" Exemplar and wouldn't part with it at any price, but originals with all parts (especially the stock sights) will usually bring in the $700 -800 range now. All that custom work will make it harder to sell, simply because you'll have to wait for a buyer who wants that kind of custom work, plus custom work on any gun makes pricing fuzzy.

I would certainly recommend that you shoot it, but if you want to sell it, go to sites for specialty pistols and/or silhouette shooting. These are specialty pistols with a capitol "S".
