Well, it LOOKS like the real thing, from a distance anyway. I might be tempted if I ever see one at the $1000 mark. My favorite LGS had a pretty nice 4" (old) one at $2499. Not long ago. I only saw it once.

I noticed in the Cobra section, the standard model is $699. The 'Bright' Cobra is $1299. Mirror polish and checkered grips, for $600 more? Would a 'Bright' Python be nearly three grand? I know the Cobras have mechanical differences over the classic Colts. I would expect the same with the Python. They do mention the heavier frame at the rear sight. |

Vintage Colt revolvers like the original Python are collectible mostly because they are vintage Colts and also because of the way they were made, meaning they were made (out of necessity) with a lot of hand fitting. Colt QC in that era could vary, so not every vintage Python is a great shooter, but folks aren't buying vintage Pythons or other vintage Colts at these prices to shoot. Most get stuck in a safe in the hopes prices will continue to appreciate. Good to see there is a new Python, just like I was happy to see the new Colt Cobra 38s. Had a new Cobra and it was a decent little revolver. If the new Python is similar, it will be a good revolver for folks who want a 357 Colt DA to actually shoot. |

I see some folks on Gunbroker are willing to pay $2500-$3000 for the new ones. I won't be paying double MSRP for a gun any time soon. I'd have to see them significantly below MSRP before I'd think about it.

hickock45 says he tested one and had a failure of the cylinder to turn. He mentioned others were having light primer strikes. I bought one in the 80's from a pawn shop. It was the smoothest pistol I've ever shot. |
