Can't Make up my Mind

I've been thinking about a 5 day fall deer hunt with an outfitter in North Carolina. This guy specifically:

http://backwoodstrophyoutfitters.com/

The other option is to buy a Crossbow and an SR1911 (If I can ever find one). NH allows Crossbows during the regular firearms season (firearms tag) and I would like to see them with an earlier season like the week before muzzleloader and it's own tags or use your bow tags but probably isn't going to happen. The SR I will get eventually but sooner is always better.

Two questions:

Has anyone used the outfitter and if so how was the hunt?

Does anyone own a crossbow and do you hunt with it. What do I need to look out for when buying?

I am considering this one:

Doing both isn't an option for me.

They don't run real big in NC. A lot of deer per square mile and the winters aren't as hard as the northern climes so they don't need the big bodies. I went down there in 1995 and hunted with an outfitter named Johnny Dare. Killed 3 deer and they wasn't much size to them but it was fun getting away for a week. My dad had passed away in February so I went alone and the time away from the world was therapeutic.

I looked on-line and Johnny Dare has his own radio show down there so it would be interesting to hear that story. Doesn't look like he guides anymore.

I'm kind of leaning toward the purchase option as a hunt would be fun but so would the toys.

Same here on the deer size, our deer don't usually get too big but there's lots of them.
72% of our counties have 5 deer seasons most years, usually 2 bucks, 3 does.
We have lots of deer!

I would love to do a hunt like that.
But a SR1911 and a good looking crossbow would be too hard to pass up.

I have been looking at some crossbows here at Eastern Outfitters. I have some recurves and regular bows but have never owned a crossbow yet.

I would imagine they are easier to aim and shoot accurately than a standard bow but the range is an issue of course, compared to a firearm.

The deer here get smaller, the closer you get to the coast and swamps.
It looks conveniently located though, just off I-95.

I'm starting to lean toward the gear and away from the trip. It would be fun to go on the hunt but a pain (and expensive) to drive down and back. I can hunt in NH and get 4-5 tags if I want them so that should keep me busy.

Gunny, do you know anything about the outfitter? Are they near you?

Do you mean the Backwoodstrophyoutfitters that Terry was talking about?
They are North up closer to the Virginia Border. I know where they are located but, don't know anything about them.
You gonna drive up so we can meet there and go for a hunt?
They are just east of I-95 not far below the Virginia line I'm pretty sure. I think that area is pretty thick and swampy.

Terry, Did you get the gear?

I've decided the hunt is out so now it's rounding up the funds and hoping they get the SR1911 out in the marketplace. I may sell off some of the dusty ones in the safe. The crossbow is still appealing and I have put one in my wish list at Cabelas.

I bought my SR1911's from Connecticut. They don't have em on the website but have some. You have to call. They said I should have it by Wednesday I think.
600 plus 20 dollars shipping. I'll have to pay the FFL I went through 25 dollars.
Since I ordered two, they said they would combine shipping.

Let me/us know if you are gonna sell something out of the safe.

Thanks and that looks like a very good price. The wholesaler my friend with an FFL uses has them listed at $550 + about the same shipping wholesale. He sells me guns at cost and I do his taxes for nothing. He has a business apart from firearms so it works out well for him and me. If my local retailer has them then I may look to do a 3 for 1 trade in if it works money wise. I'll take it on the chin a little more but the cash outlay will be less to none and it will clear out some space in the safe.

Terry, If you go for the SR1911, do you think you will conceal carry it for SD?

Nightstand maybe but for carry I either use my LCR in the pocket or the SP IWB. I'm still a wheel gun guy even though I have a P94 in 40 S&W and a supertuck for it. I suspect the P94 is lighter than a 1911 but it is a load. I like my little easy to use and carry 5 shot.

I pocket carry a lot more than any other method and the LCR is idea for that. I used to use the SP for pocket carry but the LCR has taken that place. The only holster I have for the LCR is a pocket holster. For the SP I have pocket, IWB and OWB.

I have CrossBreed IWB for the SP-101 and a Pocket holster for the LCR.
I have a Remora No Clip for both of them and find myself using the Remora's more than any other. I think the Remora is fantastic and they are very inexpensive.
