I've heard of this happening with deer, before. Because of this, many states specify antlered or non antlered in their regulations, instead of buck and doe.

That's the way they word it here, antlered or antlerless. The article didn't say, but I figured he didn't violate any laws, or they would have confiscated the deer, instead of him being able to have it mounted.

Other than the antlers, it does look like a doe to me. Doesn't have that heavy swollen neck you see on bucks during the rut.

All the states I've hunted specify antlered or non antlered if I remember correctly .

Button bucks are the other reason for the wording. It's a buck fawn with no antlers.
