Didn't pan out on Saturday. Short hunt due to rain and rising winds. I have only 'urban archery 'to fall back on now. Until Mar. 28 I can take a doe with a bow. But don't ya' hate a fetus in the gut pile? ![]() |

Gemi they have what they call depredation cow elk hunts out here. Basically designed to chase the elk off ranchers property in winter. My buddy had a friend whose family owned a big ranch in Aspen and got us tags one winter 25yrs ago. It was all lookin like a sweet deal, enjoy breakfast and a cup a coffee in the ranch house watchin the pasture for the elk. Step outside, wait for them to clear the horses, load em in the pickup with the John deer, the quintessential "easy elk" you dream about. Mid February seeing that well developed fetus turned me, and she was the chewiest elk I've ever eatin. Haven't done it since, won't ever do it again.
