Dear Gentlen/Ladies, I have an early model 39, serial #S11####. I know this rifle to be made in the 1920's for a couple of reasons, octagon barrel, curved butt stock and by dating it from several sites. I of course cannot find an exact year but overall in the 1920's. My question is: Anyone else here a collector of these and possible value. I am looking for two parts, a butt plate (which I can make) and the rear sight elevator. Does anyone know where to find these. If not I might consider selling. |

We have a couple of people here who are very knowledgeable about these so check back or set settings to e-mail you when there is a reply. Look for North County Gal (NCG) to help, or Texas Gun Runner (TGR). There are others as well, that rifle is well thought of here. |

Welcome from Virginia! The 39 is so popular for good reason. By what I read, original parts should not be too difficult to find for the most part. EDIT: Under one of their various 39 headings, Numrich parts lists a reproduction butt plate for $ 14, and a complete rear sight, with the elevator, for $ 22. Both show they're available. I don't know how much variation there was over the years on 39 parts, but their customer service could likely help, if needed. Here is their starting page for Marlin 39s: http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufact...ield-33379.htm There is a Marlin Owners forum that should have a load of info on the 39 and parts sources: http://www.marlinowners.com/forum/ And Rimfire Central forum has a separate Marlin 39 section as well: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums...play.php?f=269 You don't have to join those to just browse or search the posts, but you would to post, of course. Good luck. Last edited by bearcatter; 03-25-2017 at 07:16 AM. |

Pre-war (meaning WWII) Marlins are a highly collectible class of guns, not to be confused with post War Marlins. I've been told this by a couple of Marlin collectors who say that they have no interest in post War guns. Not that post war Marlins are bad, but if want to stay authentic, you really should check with such collectors and not rely on internet lore. Very specialized class of collectible lever guns. In fact, was talking just the other day to a highly respected Winchester collector and he confirmed this. Marlins were actually more expensive than Winchesters prior to WW II and were considered a higher class gun - his words, not mine, and all the more remarkable because he loves old Winchesters. Would not do a thing to your 39 until you talk to the real deal collector.
