1911 madness, Sig Emperor Scorpion

And madness it is with me and 1911s. Oh, I cycle though kicks with various sorts of guns, be they single action revolvers, double action revolvers, specialty pistols and various types of bottom feeders. Of them all, though, I find 1911s to be the most addictive when it comes to actual shooting. Can't say why, exactly, but put a 1911 in my hand with a good supply of 45 ammo and I am a happy gal.

Here's the latest, financed, last week, by trading off a couple of rifles that were collecting dust. It's another Sig, the Sig Emperor Scorpion Carry Fastback. The Emperor designation indicates that the finish on the gun is PVD (Nitron) rather than the baked on Cerakote found on the standard Scorpion. Color is FDE (flats dark earth). The Fastback designation, of course, indicates the bobbed grip. Also, this is a commander sized 1911 with a 4.2" barrel. Sights, once again, are Sig night sights.

The gun also wears the designation of Carry though this is an all steel gun and no lightweight. Love commander sizes 1911s for their excellent balance and handling, though, and wouldn't hesitate to carry this one in the woods. Didn't have a commander sized 1911 in the collection, so that was my excuse for buying this one.

Not a fan of ambi safeties, but this one was done right. The one on the right, the one I don't use, is small enough that I don't feel it when gripping the gun and operating the safety from the other side. Not something I can say with a lot of ambi safety setups.

My addiction with these things is based on how they shoot, so how did the Emp Scorpion perform and shoot? As with the other Sig, absolutely perfect out of the box. Over 200 rounds and not a single hiccup with any kind of ammo and, like my other Sig, sights were dead on, no adjustment needed and, oh yeah, accurate enough to bring a smile to my face.

Checked to determine POI with the sights, then my first group.

Moved out there and accuracy held.

This one, today, at the range. Last 6 shots were with one hand, only. Guess I was getting a little cocky.

If you're thinking of bobbed grips, one thing I've noticed with them is that I sometimes get a shot that goes a bit high when I don't get a good high and snug grip. After all, a bobbed grip does give you less surface for the gun to recoil back against. That's my theory, anyway, and I'm sticking to it.

Time to buy some more ammo.

By the way, if you're wondering about the odd distances I post on my targets, it's because our club range is mostly setup for rifle, so when using those range setups with my handguns, I have to shoot at a bit of an angle to stay behind the firing line and that increases distance, sometimes. On our one pistol range, we have movable target stands on sleds that can be moved to various locations. Regardless, though, all the distances I post are measured with a laser rangefinder which we carry in our range bag. Wouldn't what anyone thinking I' making wild guesses as to distances.

Beautiful Sig Commander NCG. I remember that black Sig you had a while back that was a great shooter also.

I am already a Sig fan, we have 3 & they all shoot great.

You know CZ makes a 1911 now!

It is a beauty! Love the fall color scheme.
I have been seeing pumpkin spice products everywhere lately. I wouldn't be surprised to see a gun company come out with a pumpkin spice finish.

Definitely a shooter in your hands. When I get around to adding another 1911 it will be a commander size.

Thanks, guys. A pumpkin spice finish would work for me.

Seabee, the commander is my favorite, too. Every bit as reliable and accurate as the full size guns and, like this one, many use a full size grip so you don't lose any capacity. The Sig came with two excellent 8 round mags. Sig does not skimp on their mags they supply with their 1911s.

Moakes, a local 1911 expert I know raves about the Dan Wesson (CZ) 1911s. He also has a huge collection of Sig 1911s.
