Finally got to take the P320 out and put some lead down range. I shot 125 rounds out of it and am happy to report it acts like a Sig. No failures of any kind. I put 50 rounds of factory some old PMC 180 JFP's I had laying around and the rest were two different handloads both with 155 gr JHP's. Most Sigs I have fired are zeroed with a combat sight picture, that is the dot of the front sight covering the target and even with the dots on the rear sight. I kept shots to 10 yards as I was more interested in function and just getting some rounds thru it. The first shot I used the combat hold and it was about 4" high. I said whoa whats going on here. I shot a few more and it was consistent so switched to a 6 o'clock hold and it was a lot closer but still a little high. After a couple 10 round mags of that load I switched to the 180 gr factory loads and that brought it right there, still with the 6 o'clock hold. Perfect as that's my preferred sight picture anyway. Think it's a keeper. When I got to the range there were a couple guys waiting that were new members and hadn't gotten the gate codes yet. I opened it up and headed to the range with my stuff. I waited until they got down the stairs (an outdoor range that is a big pit with berms and you can shoot out to 100 yds max) and told them I waited if they want to hang some paper. They declined and said they were just function testing a pistol. OK so turn off the red lights, load up and bang away. Then they asked if I wanted to try their pistol and told me they were from Caracal Firearms which I had never heard of before. The pistol was a little strange looking but was a striker fired 9 MM and it had the glock style trigger with the button in it. The trigger was long but smooth and I ran an 18 round mag thru it. No issues with it that I saw. I talked with them a little and they have a plant in Newington, NH (as does Sig) and one of the guys was the Operations manager. I read a little on line after I got back because I had never heard of them before and worldwide they are headquartered in the United Arab Emirates. It was a good day. |

Glad you had a good day at the range. I dunno, even if my prime goal was to function test a pistol, I'd still want to aim it at something.

Sounds like a perfect day. I have read good things about the P320 your experience with it puts it higher on the list of guns I want to test. I have heard of Caracal but haven’t seen any of their guns yet. |

This is the Caracal pistol they had. It looked a little weird to me but was pretty soft shooting. The rear sight is forward of the ejection port. It was easy to acquire the sight picture but not sure how it would affect accuracy with the shorter radius as they didn't hang any paper! https://caracalusa.com/enhanced-f/ |

It's nice when a new gun is almost boring. No issues, feels good, puts 'em where you aim. I studied those Caracal sights. They offer normal three dot, and some suppressor height sights that look weird with a tall blade and tall narrow slot in rear. The Quick Sight system seems to be a tapered trough leading from the port to the front blade. I can see it wouldn't work behind the port. You would think that a gun company would have an on-site range, at least for handguns. |

That is what I was thinking what are they doing here. The other though was don't companies fire a test cartridge as some states require the brass from a fired cartridge so they can store it somewhere and never use it. Maybe their range isn't finished. I asked them about the takedown and the trigger had to be pulled before field stripping. With the P320 lock the slide back, drop the mag and then flip the takedown lever and remove the slide. |
