Some 50 Yd Offhand Pistol Today

Went to the range this morning and shot my 2 new revolver acquisitions, the 14-3 and the Mdl 69. Didn't do anything great or terrible with those. Then I decided to try some 50 yd offhand shooting with my Ruger 22/45 Mk III. Only the 2nd time I've shot pistol at 50 yd. I was going to shoot 50 yd on the last trip. I stapled up 3 50 yd slow fire center pasters and walked out only to discover there were no 50 yd slots near the lane I was on. So today I made sure before putting on the 50 yd targets. This was the first target I shot. Right after shooting 20 full power 44 mags with the 69 too, so I guess I didn't get too rattled by it. That's a double by the line for the X ring, so a 97 3-X and a 3 7/8" group. Been giving my Volquartsen Scorpion a rest lately. Honestly, I shoot the $ 300 Ruger about as well as the Volquartsen. Did put mostly VQ guts in the Ruger. The main advantage of the VQ is reliability. I'll go thousands of rounds without a jam. The Ruger, maybe 100 or 200. I shot another 90 score right after this one, and the 3rd one was all over the place. I think that's the 3rd time I've gone to the range on Sunday. Really no different from the Tuesday mornings I usually go, as far as the crowd.

What kinds of guns are the other folks at the range shooting?
It runs the full gamut, but there's a lot more "old man" guns here than at my range back in MN. Lots of mil-spec rifles, and lots of revolvers and 1911's. I got to talking revolvers with one guy today after he admired my mdl 14. There's a lot of serious-looking bench rest rifles here too.

At 50yds I'd be lucky to see the target let alone hit it! Great shooting!!

Glad to hear things are working out, Shaky. We're waiting to hear how miserable winter is out there. Shooting 12 months a year will get so-o-o-o boring.....:-D

My range handgun shooting is usually 30, as in feet.........

At 50 yards, I'd have 12 inch groups. 25 yards is about my limit, and still not great.

Sorry I'm a little late on this, but great work, Shakey. Very pleased when I see other folks shooting pistol at 50 yards. When I do it at our range (and I do it, frequently), I get more than a few looks from people who think it's crazy. I''d say 99% of the shooters I see who are shooting handguns are shooting at 7 yards or even 3 yards. Guess us old bullseye shooters are a dying breed, now. Keep up the good work.
