I am almost out of CFE223 for my .223 reloading & was in Cabela's getting more 20% off primers, so low & behold they have BL-C2 for $25.99 & I got my Vet. discount also. I have heard good things about it. The CFE223 will be a tough act to follow ! I will report after I test it. |

I like CFE 223 also. You probably won't find any, but a powder that shoots even better for me, is IMR 8208 XBR. I like it so well that when I found a case of it available in KC, I bought it on the spot. It works really well in both .223 and .308, measures great and doesn't seem to be effected much by temperature. Between my grandson and I, we have 4 .223's and I've found loads that shoot good in all 4. (Sorry, guess I should be a salesman for them.)

I narrowed my powder choices down to 3 powder 40 years ago . I got tired of stocking 20 different powder . I have used these 3 powder in 8 lbs cans and loaded over 30 different cal . There is and will be 1 powder that is always the best in 1 gun and or cal . I have use Unique powder in every rifle and pistol and cal I've owned if you keep it under 1200 fps . Next is IMR4227 works best in over 1000 fps in magum pistol and small rife brass like 223 . I like IMR3031 for my rife loads over 2000 fps . This 3 has worked for me for good target and hunting loads . If you want to squeeze every FPS out of a gun or cal you will need to buy 20 different powder , This book below will give you a load using Unique in over 165 differ rifle and pistol cal . ![]() |

That's good info TGR, but my problem is I use Hodgdon's data for their powders & they do not list IMR 4227 for .223 in the manuals. You have me sold on Unique & I have developed loads for all my pistol rounds with it. Hodgdon has a new line of IMR powders out this year that are in-stock online, but I have not seen it in the stores yet. ( IMR 4166, 4451, 7977) I actually want to try a couple others also as Hodgdons Benchmark & H322 have a following for .223, but I am not interested in using any of the other powder that has compressed loads listed and their are a few. But for now, I know that CFE223 & BL-C2 will take care of my .223 needs & actually don't reload a lot with .223, just about 250 round a year. When I take the rifle out, it is only for 40-50 rounds at a time. Last edited by moakes58; 02-17-2015 at 12:32 PM. |

IMR4895 I like better then IMR3031 it meter better and shoots just as good . H322 is a great powder and for benchrest in my TN222 there is no better powder . You never shoot target center in benchrest because you shot out your aiming point . ![]() | |

Thanks for the info, as always, TGR. I will pick up some H322 as soon as it makes an appearance in my area. For rifles, this powder does not last long ![]() I bet it really disappears fast when reloading the big cartridges! |
