Re: Caliber war

Rifle: .270 Win. Just like it, that's all!

Handgun: .45 ACP. Because John Moses Browning Didn't make a .46!

Big Bore revolver: .44 Rem Magnum. Cause it's .44 Magnum for Gods sake! :P

Re: Caliber war

I think in rifle it's the 30-06 for me. The hand gun is 45acp. Both are very good for what I'd use them for.

Re: Caliber war

rifle,I like them all for hunting the 375 ouch & ouch,444,375 win & 30/30 in that order.again the 375 H&H as it can be loaded with cast bullets for cottontails to 300 gr solid fmj for rhinos in africa.

handgun if I had to pick just one SA....45 colt in a ruger.it can be loaded way passed the 44 mag and at less pressure its a heavy thumper.

for a auto its the 45 acp.

Re: Caliber war

I finished a 1/2 box of shells i got with my 375 winchester and that box was the only rounds through it..

I have 3 444 Marlins one is new unfired 1 is scoped and shoots better then i would ever think it would do.3 is used but i never fired it.

My 45/70 guide gun is used but i never fired it.

I can't afford to shoot them all,and my rids won't take the big calibers and longer. The last big gun almost killed my chest..

I'll take the guide gun, Johnny. Just pretend I'm your kid. Tell me I'm just like my damn mother and give me the gun.

Re: Caliber war

.357 for me

I love it delivering it with my GP-100 or my lever gun
I love how versatile it is and how easy it is to reload

For me, it is the perfect answer to the "if you could only have one caliber" question.

Re: Caliber war

Much as I like the .45 ACP I have to agree with Cruelshoes. The versatility combined with the fact it is chambered in mid sized frames and even small frames makes it the obvious choice if I had to pick one caliber or one handgun. The 4" Mod 19 is the closest I can think of to an all purpose handgun. It is what I would grab if I could grab only one, and I would not feel unequipped for any task.

Don't pin your self down to 1 type gun.Consider ones you love for any reason looks ,dad had one.Or any thing or any kind..

JW it only kicks as hard as you load it.in my 444 the cast RD 265 gc (273 gr my alloy) and 24.0 grs 2400 will kill anything in tx.thump isn't much more than a 44 mag rifle load.

in my 375 win (not a usra)
280 gr lfn gc
19.0 grs 2400
win brass
win lg rifle primer
is one deer killing load and the bite isn't much more than a 30/30.

the 45/70
cast 340 gr lfn
28.0 grs AA5744
rem brass
rem lg rifle primer

very mellow load on your shoulder and your RIDS .
I have some cast up if you need to try some.

Re: Caliber war

Rifle, the good old 30/06, followed very closely by the .308.

Shotgun, 12 ga.

Handgun is a bit harder to decide. In a semi auto, the .45 ACP, hands down. In a revolver, I lean very heavily toward the .357, although I love all the big bores too, .41, .44, and .45 Colt. But, I think the versatility of the .357 makes it my choice.

Re: Caliber war

...Cruelshoes has a great point...to pack light and yet have a revolver and rifle the same caliber...for plinking (.38) and hunting and defense (.357)...the .357/.38 combo makes a lotta sense...

...now a question...the .38 CCI shotshells are kinda anemic outa a revolver...do they hit any harder/shoot longer outa the rifle???I suspect they'd have to be single fed, but would they kill a squirrel or rabbit at 30-40 feet???

Re: Caliber war

I like the 45 colt idea also. But also like the 30/06 and 308.12g shot gun and the 357 mag.

I guess its hard to pin down just 1.

Re: Caliber war

I have a dilemma here, my favorite hunting combo, 45/70 Marlin and a 629 and maybe throw in a Rossi 22/20ga or my Marlin 1894C 45LC and a couple 45 Vaqueros and maybe my TC Contendor in 45/410. Maybe I just ought to mound my safe on wheels for emergencies!
