I've recently gotten back into the AR building fever I had before I went to college for two years, and since then have dug up some old shooting magazines that, at the time were extolling the virtues of a (K)eep (I)t (S)imple (S)tupid carbine. The jist of the rifle is light weight (6.5-7 pounds all up weight) with bomb proof sights (fixed A1/A2 style). Well I got the bug BAD for a KISS style AR. Here are my criteria M16 style upper receiver (less forward assist), possibly Les Baer flat top less forward assist Light weight (pencil barrel) barrel with a mid-length gas system. Mid length is a personal preference, also it'll be either chrome lined or melonited, either or. Free float, light weight forward handguard The lower is where I want to be more out of the box, I like the Smith and Wesson M&P Sport lower a lot, So I plan on using a Sport as the base for my rifle, selling the stock upper to fund the rest of the build. I'll update as the build starts and progresses. |

For years the only AR I would own said Colt on it. Then about five years ago I broke down and bought a few non-Colts. I have a Colt SP1 that is configured in the XM16E1 configuration. Can't get any more simpler than that. |

I am looking forward to seeing this project progress. I want to add an AR to the collection down the road so I look forward to the education on them.

Ive built three in the last five years, all of them havexrheir own niche to fill, my current simplest is an A2 clone with a Model One upper on a Sig M400 Hunter lower. Aside from the Sig additions to the standard AR lower, its about as close as Ill ever get to a real A2 again. Ill post pictures of my three one of these days lol
