I got a scope mount with rings from Pyramyd to put it on my RWS spring gun to see how it shoots scoped . I put it on my 953 just for today . I zeroed in the scope just to get it on paper and shot these 20 rds for group size only not score . I put the peeps back on it already . Here the target I shot with my 953 with 16X scope . ![]() I can shoot my peeps almost as good on the bench as with a scope and I can shoot the peeps better offhand then with a scope . I don't jerk the trigger with peeps . I wait till target is sharp and bright and pop the trigger . ![]() Last edited by tx gun runner; 07-23-2015 at 06:59 PM. |

Those Daisy pellets are nothing to sneeze at, But the RWS are incredible. I have been away from shooting the 953 for way too long but the weather making a sauna out of my garage has made shooting too uncomfortable. I don't like to sweat so serious air gun shooting will have to wait till fall. As always great shooting Sir, you inspire me. |

Not at all surprised at those great grips with the 953, TGR. The 953 is one of my favorite 10 yard shooters, too. I tend to shoot my air rifles and pistols at 10 meters from a standing position better with a scope, but it takes a lot of practice to get used to those darn crosshairs jumping around so much. I think it's a matter of better target visibility for me with the scope. On the other hand, I tire quicker fighting the scope to keep it steady. 1x or even 2x is easy, 4x is still doable for me. It's paid off for me, though, shooting offhand at the range with our scoped CZ rifles. Haven't posted much about this shooting, though. Figured its a bit too "out there" for most folks to relate to, but on a good day, I can keep everything under 2 to 2.5 inches at 50 yards with the CZs. Thought I better back up my claim about offhand shooting at 50 yards after I posted it, so went out a few minutes, later, and shot this group with our HW30S spring piston air rifle with a 4x scope. Interestingly, after the 3rd shot, the scope broke, giving me only half a field of view. Fortunately, the adjustments held. Lesson learned that a cheap air gun scope (and it was rated as such) is still a cheap scope. I now have a box full of air gun scopes that have bit the dust on my spring piston rifles. Time to invest in better scopes. ![]() |

Seabee, the scopes are a Rex Optics, Stoeger Air gun scope, Centerpoint and a Nikko Sterling. Keep in mind that these met their demise on spring piston rifles. On a 953 or any type of pneumatic, they would hold up just fine. It's the double shuffle recoil of piston guns that does damage to a scope. Any kind of pneumatic, you'll be fine. Moakes and 303, we understand. Hope you get a chance to shoot, soon. As for Bill and I, we've been shooting quite a bit this week. Just haven't had time to post about it. |
