I'm taking a long range class at Frontline Defense the end of May. Talking with the instructor, the scope I had on the 700, Nikon M308, just wouldn't work all the way out to 1000yd. I was told that I needed another scope…. ![]() So, the other week, I purchased a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP (mrad). Got that mounted last weekend, but have not had a chance to do a range zero. It's bore sighted right now. I also need either a 20moa rail for the scope mount to mount to, or I need to get new rings which would have 20moa built into. A picture or 2… ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Beautiful rifle. What caliber? I'm working on a long range build using the Savage model 11. Let us know how you like the scope. If it's 308 what kind of ammo will you be using? Factory or handloads?

I take it you have access to a 1000 yard range. Our range only goes out to 200 yards, but, around here, that's about the only place you'll ever get a 200 yard shot unless you are shooting across a lake. ![]()

I need to take a road trip to Frontline someday. I have read a lot of good things about them on NCGO. Looking forward to hearing about your class. |

Caliber is .308 and this one likes Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr. I'm going to get some 175gr to use at the class also. I have a crap load of brass saved up in all my calibers, just need to get my reloading stuff set up... |

Sorry for not replying - I kinda fell off the earth here. /shrug/ USMC6094 - in that configuration, I did not get to shoot the rifle. I have some "upgrades" to the rifle now, KRG X-Ray stock, threaded barrel and JP brake, oversized bolt knob. I have since shot in the new configuration and I love it. It was back in October that I was able to get a 100yd zero, in anticipation of getting over to the 1000yd range soon after, but I haven't. ![]() Optics are absolutely great and I got a very good deal on the whole setup. I'm thinking while I'm off over the Christmas holidays, that I shall make a trip up to FLD and get some dope for that day/conditions. Here's the zero target. Started out with shots to the upper far right and moved them in/down. The shots at the bottom diamond are after I got it all dialed in. I guess not too bad for a woman. ![]() ![]() |

Very nice shooting. I don't have any experience with Vortex, but your results say plenty.

I want to see some "bad ass groups" at longer distances…you know me. ![]() Ha. I thought I had posted a picture of the upgrade. This is just at the LGS (Trigger Happy Guns and Accessories) after I got it back from FLD with the upgrades. Maybe when I'm out at FLD next time, I'll take some more pictures. Also not shown in the picture is a 10rd magazine. I'll get more better pictures soon. ![]()
