Colt AR-15 A2 Govt Model Pre-Ban

I've had this for quite a while now. Picked it up back in the 80's in a trade for a Remington Wingmaster 12 ga. I had the box (green label) but lost in when I moved back in 2000. I'm gonna give Colt a call on Monday because I would like a mfg date...tried an online search but had no luck. I believe it is a transitional model 6550...no receiver block, slab side, 1 in 7 twist and is lacking the bayonet lug. Anyhow here's a few pics. Comments are always welcome.

Thank you for your interest Dennis. Back in the day most of the folks discarded the boxes...just the way it was. I held onto the box as I used it for storage cause I didn't have a safe back then. I read on line that the old pre-ban AR15 boxes that the rifle came in are worth in the $ 200 range. I looked and looked but I do not have it. My best guess is that it got lost when I moved...it's a shame as it was numbered to the gun. BTW it is a great shooter and I reload for it. Best wishes.

I called Colt and found the date of mfg..1990. I could've swore I picked this up back in the late 80's my bad. Anyhow it's still a nice old pre-ban and a real sweet shooter.

I have never shot or even held a black rifle. Nothing against them we had the M-14 when I went thru basic and AIT and when I got back to my reserve unit we had the M-1 Garande. I have never had the urge to buy one as I think rifle I usually thing scoped bolt action hunting rifle.

That Colt is the only AR platform rifle that I own. I too am familiar with the M14 and have a nice Garand from the DCM. Too many AR guns out there...I'm satisfied with the older military firearms,

I just picked up the sear blocked, lower receiver with a fence Sporter model about two weeks ago.........

Only thing I wish was different was the elevation setting on the rear sight, it doesnt go "8/3-2" like we did in the Marine Corps.........

Good looking rifle
