Home defense

I normally don't like shotguns for home defense , but this one carries 15 rounds in a small package and has 2 mags built in you can load different shell in the left side then in the right and you select which ammo with you want to shoot or alternate back and fort with a level on the top . There not cheap just under $1000

I am always interested in another persons view on the subject of home defense, so...

why not?

On another note, I wish I had the land that I could have a range like his. And I like that shotgun too!

I don't like long guns for home defense either, though my reasons might be different.

1.) I want something an intruder won't find while I sleep. I keep a handgun under my pillow or on my person.

2.) In almost any likely situation I will want one hand free for lights, doors, phone, fending off an attack, etc.

3.) I have done by far most of my shooting and practice with handguns and have greater skill and confidence with them, revolver or auto.

4.) Better and faster handling in close quarters. Easier to protect and harder for someone to deflect or grab. I'm too old to be fighting over the gun.

Of course this might be different for others and I used to recommend a shotgun but I have changed my views.

I wouldn't mind having a shotgun Mare's Leg.

Not for serious use, I want fast repeat shots available with one hand.

I hate to admit it but I think of self-defense last when I buy a firearm. I went through a period of trying to find the best one and just settled on a Springfield XD Sub-compact in 9mm. Might not be the best handgun in the world but I like it.

I've lived in some bad areas. Self defense has always been my top priority though I did reach the point I bought guns for fun. Only after SD was well covered though, and my practice has always given SD first priority.

I learned to shoot double action by hanging one gallon plastic jugs from the top wire of and old fence and trying to keep it bouncing and swinging firing a Ruger Speed Six .357 Magnum. I had a good place to shoot near home and work and was reloading ammo so I could afford to shoot. I ended up very confident in my ability to handle any intruder no matter how he might be armed. That was long ago but that has always been my top priority with handguns.

To be good you need the killer instinct. I've had it before but lost it decades ago. I try not to make foolish mistakes and my best defense is situation awareness. I know crime can happen anywhere but we live in a nice neighborhood. Its not like living in the Rainier Valley where break-ins happen daily in most neighborhoods.

I fear the government more than I do some hood.

Defense is a big deal with me . I had a S&W model 60 to deal with a street gang in Philly in 1969 , a 45 Detonic for 5 drunk indians in the hills of Ca in 80's and a 1911 for biker gang in the 90's in Az . To go back in time and pick a CCW gun to do the job , my choice would the gun I carry today which is a 13 shot Glock 23 with extra mag on my person which I carry 24/7 now plus a bug gun . I will never be caught under gunned again . I feel you need a min of 2 round per bad guy in a fire fight . The break in 2 doors up my street 2 yrs ago was 6 black drugster in 2 cars . A drivers in each car , 1 standing guard in driveway and they kicked the door and 3 enter house only 3 shots fired no one was hit . It was a cash and drug grab and took only a few mins I'm glad they got the correct house and not mine . The pickup in the street is a pic is a cop's house and the house across the street is where this happen .

Here in St. Louis, we had homicide #14 last night & have an early start to break the 2014 count of 148.

We have just tied January, 2014's murder count with 10 days to go.

Me too! You only have to stare down one barrel in your life-time to understand why, and I have had that one in a lifetime experience.

The orange and white do-it-yourself moving equipment place that I work at part-time had an attempted robbery yesterday. It wasn't while I was there and the idiot that attempted to do it wasn’t successful but it is an indication of how brazen people are becoming these days.

Guy comes into the showroom and asks about a trailer hitch. A co-worker (only one working) looks it up and has to go to the warehouse to verify if we have it in stock. Comes back to the showroom and tells the guy: yes we have it. The guy then says: I’ll take it. Co-worker goes back to the warehouse to get the hitch and when he is returning
to the showroom he sees the guy getting in his car and driving off. My co-worker thinks nothing of it and returns the hitch to the warehouse.

My co-worker goes about his normal business and about 30 minutes later (it was a slow day, and no one wants to move when it is cold) he notices that the cash drawer is seriously bent but the drawer is still closed, and then realizes what the guy who wanted the hitch was up to.

The idiot wasn’t too smart though… the video camera was just over his right shoulder and caught every feature. According to the local PD, it seems he tried it at a few other places throughout the day also. So, if people are brazen enough to do this stuff during broad day-light in view of video cameras, just imagine what they are capable of doing at night. Yeah, defense is serious to me too.

At least no one was hurt, but it does give me the creeps to know those kinds of people are out and about.
