Question Single action suggestions?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the Forum. I am getting ready to purchase a pair of Single Action Revolvers and have Joined the Single Action Shooting Society and ultimately want to compete for the fun of it. SO... am wonder if anyone has suggestions for which to buy. I don't know a lot as right now the only single actions I have are 2 1858 New Army Black powder revolvers but I don't want to go BP instead wanting to use the Cartridge Revolvers such as Ruger or Uberti or Chiappa. Any suggestions would be appreciated, again my level of experience is zero. I am however very experienced with firearms in general, and a pretty good shot with most anything. Was in the military. OH! also any suggestion on where to get good leather holsters, websites etc... would also be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Welcome aboard, I can't help you out with your questions. But we have some very experienced SA shooters here who will be a great deal of help.

Yup, our TX is the man for this one as far as competition shooting. Check anything he's posted and you'll see why. I'm sure he'll be along to help. Sit tight.

I am not a cowboy/cowgirl action type shooter, but I am a big single action (and lever action) fan. Currently, I do have 8 Ruger SAs and short of going to insanely expensive guns like Freedom Arms, they are about as solid and well built as it gets in a Single Action. Always a safe bet. For CAS, you'll probably want to look at the Vaqueros. I'm more of a range and field shooter, so all my SAs have adjustable sights and a few have optics. At my age, fixed sights are a real issue for me.

Here's some of my Ruger SA 22s and, yes, for practice sake, you should definitely get a 22 SA, a Single Six or a Single Ten.

Another SA that I've been told is popular for CAS shooting is the no longer made Ruger Single Six Magnum 32 H&R. This one with adjustable sights is a recent acquisition for me, but the ones the CAS folks go for are the fixed sight models. Still some of these around and the 32 H&R is a neat, fun to shoot cartridge.

I'm off, today, to the range to sight in some Rugerr 44 mags, which are definitely on the large side for CAS, but a girl has to have her 44 mags for bears in this neighborhood.

Welcome! I live just North of Dallas.

As others have pointed out, Gunrunner is the real authority on SAs and action shooting. North Country Gal and XLCH are also very knowledgeable on SAs. A number of the rest of us have and enjoy SAs. Mine are Rugers but the Italian guns are not the junk they once were. Gunrunner speaks well of the Uberty revolvers and I have handled a Cimarron and was very impressed with the feel, fit and finish.

Gunrunner has been very generous to many of us in sharing his extensive knowledge and experience. I hope you find good council here and we see you a lot. Have fun!

Welcome to the forum from Michigan!
(and since you're new here & don't know my sick sense of humor yet...I won't comment on "single action")
