lean meat (ie game, especially small game) is about 800 calories to the lb, and only half of an animal's live weight is edible meat.Under shtf stress, you'll need 4000 calories per day, 5000 per day if it's cold. So you'll need 3-4 rabbits EVERY day, or you'll lose weight. You'll need a dozen squirrles or a score of pigeons, or 2 score of blackbirds, EVERY day. that's not gonna happen. Besides, about half of your diet MUST come from plant origins, or you'll get really sick within a few months.

the shotgun is an extremely poor choice, just like the bolt actions are.

ok, tell us how MUCH you'll lead a running animal. you'll have to know the range, and his speed of travel (which you can't know) and you'll have to somehow keep him running "flat" (ie, not bouncing up and down like they DO, ya know. All you'll do is wound many, and then the dog packs will get them, and you'll be out the ammo. You'll also have callled in every enemy within miles. Dumb move, dude.

maybe YOU are 18" wide thru the torso, but most people are 12", and only 9" if sideways to you (which they WILL be half of the time. and no, you won[t hit people "easily" at anything LIKE 1000 yds, either. If you zero at 1000 yds, you'll be hitting 20 ft HIGH when other enemies pop up at 600 yds, and that can happen REAL easy in a shtf situation. Only a fool would fire at more than 300 yds, cause you're too likely to miss, due to heat mirage, wind, target movement, and ammo will be too hard to replace (match grade ammo). also, if they are further than that, they dont know about you, so why fire and tell them? you won't hit more than one at such a distance, cause they'll all dive for cover at the first shot. Garand aint even got a flashhider, and aint worth a hoot for scoping. Being without a glass, at dusk or dawn or in thick, dark cover, means you'll miss a lot of game (or never see it at all).

06 is hugely wasted on livestock, small game, birds, dogs and cats, and that's mostly what will be available. It's pointless on deer and men, too, mostly, especially on men. About a million dead (or seriously messed up, WOULD be dead in shtf conditions) from the 223 are proof that it works, even with silly ball ammo. Anyone with any sense will put 60 gr Nosler Partition softpoints in their 223 for serious work. they get about 16" of penetration, which means an exit wound on deer, so you'll get a good blood trail.

the military and police arsenals don't contain ONE rd of AK ammo or 06, guys, so it's a silly choice, regardless of what rifle you choose for it, for shtf purposes. Nothing that lacks a silencer and the ability to shoot 22lr makes any sense, and neither does anything as lacking in rapidfire as a bolt action.

Instinct! try bird hunting. I onced drooped a running buck at 100 yards with a 410 and slugs. Surprised? yes I was but we ate good that night!!

instinct my ass. What you mean is you don't CARE if you cripple animals and let them run off to die a horrible death. I can easily prove, with a running target setup, that you can't reliably hit the vitals circle of a deer, at even 50 yds, if it's running across your front, or at 100 yds, unless it's running either straight at you or straight away from you. You aint got the several feet wide pattern of shot to help you hit a deer with a rifle. Don't kid yourself about such a horrific thing. You are admitting to the world that you're a monster.

410 slug has about as much power left at 100 yds as a 9mm pistol has at the muzzle. do you even know what the slug weighs, or how fast it's moving? how fast it's still going at 100 yds. ? no, you do not so any hitting you do is by pure LUCK. If it WAS 100 yds (highly unlikely) and if it DID "drop" (also very unlikely) it had to be a brain hit.

410 slug is 98 grs, at 1800 fps. Because it is so blunt, it has slowed down to 1300 fps at 100 yds, which means it hits with little more power than a 9x18 makarov does at the muzzle. whoopee, REALLY likely to "drop" an adrenalized deer, right? when 06 softpoints and 12 ga slugs (up close) fail to do the same thing (on a regular basis)

in order to calculate lead, you have to know the speed of the moving target, which you cannot do( or guesttimate closely enough to relilably hit the 10" circle of a deer's vitals, not at 100 yds. the 410 slug takes 1/4 second to get there. the deer can be runniing 30-50 fps. so for one speed, you need 7ft of lead, the other speed, you'd need12 ft of lead. if you guess wrong, you shoot in front of the deer, or behind it, (or gut shoot it, most likely) Just because you are an *** who can't wait to get a better shot. and you're PROUD of it.

I reported his 9:34 comment earlier. He has nothing but harassing and insulting comments to make and contributes nothing to any discussion or to the forum. Let's hope the admin takes care of this. He would do far better to find a prepper forum where they don't know firearms but think they will survive TEOCAWKI with their composting toilets and backyard gardens and chicken coups, and he could peddle his stories far easier than to people who recognize it for what it is and know him for what he is.

These mall ninjas all sound so much alike I really can't tell if they are the same person or if they all sound alike because they trade the same BS to each other on their mall ninja forums and find the same stories and tone attractive.

Do you think he wears his mail order mall security badge when he comes here to give him confidence?

If you study his use of language and non use of capital letters it is clear this is our repeat mall ninja.

I wonder if he carries a Kel-tec 9mm as at least a couple of our mall ninjas did. You don't need to worry about a cheap POS failing when you shoot 5,000 rounds a week to maintain your amazing abilities. He can shoot a mouse in the eye at 50 yards through the gunport of an APC moving at speed over rough ground. You had to be that good just to join his security team, and then they started the real training. You have to be the elite best of the best of the best to counter terrorists and keep our malls safe. The little people never know how much danger the crack(head) security staff saves them from just by their incredible skills and rigorous training and drills.

Thank you, guys!

The tone is very familiar but he has not posted a million useless threads yet. Maybe we have just been lucky. Not disputing your statement at all.
